Welcome to Toucanradio. I am Sarah Elzas, an independent radio producer and broadcast journalist, these days living and working in France. I report and present the news and produce features in English for
Radio France International. I also occasionally do some work for
France 24, a trilingual (French/English/Arabic) TV news channel based in Paris.
As an independent radio producer, my work has aired in the US on
The World (PRI/BBC),
Studio 360, NPR's
Justice Talking,
Weekend America,
Voice of America and
Air America. In Europe my work has aired on
Radio Netherlands,
RTE Radio (Ireland), and on several other European radio services through
Network Europe. I was also the producer of a series on American Jewish History, called
Only in America that aired in the US in 2007. I'm a member of
AIR, the Association of Independents in Radio.
For those of you who care about these kinds of things, I studied anthropology at
Columbia University and attended the radio program at the
Salt Institute for Documentary Studies in Portland, Maine.
Olivia Bueno is my co-producer on
American Purgatory a documentary about political asylum in the US. Olivia works in the field of asylum and refugee rights, most recently for the
International Refugee Rights Initiative.
Natasha (at right) is another co-producer and manages our relaxation activities. Meow!
I appreciate any and all
feedback about anything you hear or see on this site.
NOTE: My name is pronounced Sarah EL-zis.
